Michigan football stars react to Penn State-Ohio State game

Over the weekend, just before the Wolverines embarrassed Michigan State 49-0 in their own stadium, No. 7 Penn State and No. 3 Ohio State took the field in Columbus, OH. Frankly, that game was one of the worst I have ever forced myself to watch in quite some time; however, seeing as these are the top two teams on the Wolverines’ schedule this fall, we heard more from Michigan football stars JJ McCarthy and Braiden McGregor on what they saw.

For JJ McCarthy and Braiden McGregor, beating Michigan State was priority No. 1 this weekend. That said, Michigan football has been keeping a close eye on Penn State and Ohio State this fall, so of course, we heard more from the duo of elite Wolverines this afternoon.

JJ McCarthy has already broke down the film

Here is what junior quarterback JJ McCarthy, the nation’s current Heisman Trophy frontrunner, had to say about the Penn State-Ohio State game.

“I watched all of it — I’ve already watched the all-22,” JJ McCarthy said this afternoon. “There is a lot of stuff on the tape that — it’s good to observe. There is just stuff where we think we can attack them — find weaknesses and stuff like that. But, at the end of the day, we are focused on Purdue, and that’s my only focus so far.”

Braiden McGregor shares his thoughts

Additionally, Braiden McGregor was asked about his thoughts on the game, though it sounds like he has not seen nearly as much of the Nittany Lions or Buckeyes just yet.

“Coach (Jim) Harbaugh always tells us ‘Don’t get too invested’ in the games,” Braiden McGregor said. “So Jay (Jaylen Harrell) and I were sitting in the room, and we didn’t watch too much of it. We ended up going down to the hotel hot tub and getting our bodies loose (for the Michigan State game).

“A big thing for us is focusing on who we are playing — obviously, we’re looking at who we are gonna play at the end of the year,” he added. “But watching them (Penn State and Ohio State), they are both really good teams — both ranked top 10 — so we gotta come to play against them. We’ll just continue being us, and we will be alright.”

Michigan football has a bye this weekend before hosting the Purdue Boilermakers in Week 10. After that, the season gets very real very fast, with the Wolverines facing No. 10 Penn State in Week 11, Maryland in Week 12, and No. 3 Ohio State in Week 13.
