Brewers slugger expects to get booed in return against former team

The Milwaukee Brewers won't play the Philadelphia Phillies until early June, when Bryce Harper's club hosts the Brew Crew from June 3-5.
Brewers first baseman Rhys Hoskins told the "Foul Territory" podcast on Monday that he thinks he already knows what to expect when he returns to the City of Brotherly Love for the first time since leaving the franchise in the offseason.

"My guess is yes," Hoskins said, when asked if he'd get booed when he makes his return to Citizens Bank Park. "If I'm getting booed, it probably means that the Brewers are doing something to be winning the game, or to win the game. So I'll kind of root for that as a way to make sure that we the Brewers are coming out on top. I'm excited to go back. I'm excited to see all those guys, those relationships that I've talked about. I'm excited to compete against them wearing a different (uniform), but I said this when I signed, I hope the Brewers win at the end of the day."

The 31-year-old signed a two-year, $34M deal with Milwaukee on Jan. 26 after playing six seasons with Philadelphia from 2017-22.

Hoskins was selected by Philadelphia in the fifth round of the 2014 MLB June Amateur Draft and hit 148 regular season home runs with the team. He suffered a season-ending torn ACL during spring training last season.

Hoskins had a career-high 145 hits during the 2022 campaign, adding 30 home runs, 79 RBI and a .246/.332/.462 slash line over 589 at-bats in 156 games played. He went just 11-for-69 during Philadelphia's run to the 2022 World Series but hit six home runs, including four in the NLCS against the San Diego Padres.

The Brewers and Phillies are both in second place in their respective divisions, with the former off to a 6-2 start and the latter at 4-5.
