Falcons Named Trade Destination For Star Pass Rusher
Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

The Atlanta Falcons landed one of the biggest fish in the free-agent pond, signing quarterback Kirk Cousins to a lucrative multi-year deal.

While Cousins will certainly improve the Falcons heading into 2024, it’s still pretty clear the team needs some help in other areas.

Like the pass rush, for example.

While Atlanta’s pass rush wasn’t horrendous this past season, it totaled 42 sacks, which ranked in the bottom third of the NFL.

Plus, the Falcons’ two top sack-getters from 2023—Calais Campbell and Bud Dupree—are both free agents, and Atlanta does not seem eager to re-sign either player.

Campbell and Dupree registered 6.5 sacks each this past year. The next best total was Arnold Ebiketie, who totaled six sacks.

Clearly, the Falcons are missing a truly elite edge rusher, which is why Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox feels that they are a great landing spot for Philadelphia Eagles star Haason Reddick.

Reddick reportedly asked for a trade at the end of the season, and while he denied that happened, the Eagles went out and signed fellow edge rusher Bryce Huff in free agency.

With Reddick going into the last year of his deal, it seems hard to fathom Philadelphia keeping both Reddick and Huff long term, so Philly may still end up moving Reddick this offseason.

Reddick is coming off of a 2023 campaign in which he registered 38 tackles and 11 sacks, representing his fourth straight double-digit sack season.

In his first year as a member of the Eagles in 2022, the 29-year-old racked up 16 sacks.

Reddick was originally selected by the Arizona Cardinals with the seventh overall pick of the 2017 NFL Draft and spent his first four years there. He then linked up with the Carolina Panthers for one season before joining Philadelphia.

For a Falcons squad in desperate need of a top-flight pass rusher, Reddick definitely makes sense.
