There have been quite a few surprises from the Browns’ training camp so far. Some people are thinking of the rookie kicker Cade York, but second-year cornerback Greg Newsome II is really standing out.

During training camp, he’s shown a lot of potential to take the next step. He even intercepted Deshaun Watson during one on one drills.

Newsome will be looking to build on a strong rookie season, and if he can grow as a player, Newsome and Denzel Ward will be an incredible cornerback duo.

In his rookie year, Newsome had 37 tackles and nine passes defended in 12 games.

He obviously won’t be in the number one cornerback spot with Denzel Ward on the team, but it was said that he could be put in at the slot corner position. And Greg Newsome is a fan of that idea.

“I think it’s a benefit toward me. I’ll be around the ball a lot more. I’m definitely liking the inside. It’s going to be fun. I think I’ll be able to make more plays, get some sacks and things like that.”

In his rookie year, Newsome mainly played on the outside. But, he was the backup in the slot behind Troy Hill. So his versatility made him a very good option for the Browns to go to.

And now that Troy Hill was traded to the Rams, Greg Newsome will probably be put at the slot position. Newsome’s skills are already good, but he is also getting advice from Troy Hill on that position even though the defenses they play in are different.

“Nickel is one of the hardest positions in football. You have to be intelligent in order to play that position. I just think with my body type a little bit bigger, and I’m agile to move, so I can guard those smaller receivers. I think I will definitely be fine in the nickel.”

Greg Newsome is showing potential in training camp, and we can expect some big things from him this season.
